Arsène Wenger dalam laporan terkini mengesahkan dimana beliau telah berjumpa dengan Pengerusi Manchester United, Martin Edwards pada tahun 2001.
Manchester United dikatakan mencari pengganti kepada Sir Alex Ferguson (SAR) yang dikatakan ingin bersara pada musim 2001/2002 dan Wenger dikatakan calon utama untuk menggantikan posisi SAR di Manchester United.
Bagaimanapun Wenger menolak tawaran tersebut sambil menegaskan beliau gembira bersama Arsenal walaupun tertarik dengan kelab tersebut.
Dan SAR ketika itu juga membuat keputusan untuk tidak bersara sebaliknya memilih untuk mengemudi United sehingga tahun 2013.
Arsenal dan Manchester United boleh dikatakan mengalami zaman 'rival' paling hangat pada tahun 1995 sehingga tahun 2004.

Punca utama beliau (Wenger) menolak tawaran United adalah kerana beliau terlalu sayangkan Arsenal yang disertai beliau pada tahun 1996.
